Teams help you manage your organization’s users' access to specific publications, advertisers, or campaigns, based on their area of responsibility or other business rules. By grouping users into teams that only see the advertisers, publications, and campaigns that are relevant to them, you’ll simplify administration and make the Ad Platform experience more efficient.

Teams Basics

Teams are defined by users with team administration privileges. Each team specifies a list of users (participants) along with a list of O&O publications they have access to and/or a list of advertisers for whom they can create campaigns.

Once a user is added to a team, they will only see the publications, advertisers, and campaigns that are assigned to their team. A user can be in multiple teams at the same time but any campaigns that are created must be assigned to only one of their teams.

A team's settings for publications and advertisers will impact what other entities the user sees. Team settings may effect the following features, among others.

  • Campaigns

  • Creatives

  • Inventory

  • Report Data

Global Users and Global Entities

Not every user needs to be on a team nor do every publication, advertiser, or campaign. Users that aren't assigned to a team have a "global" unconstrained view of all publications, advertisers, and campaigns, just as they did before teams were introduced.

Entities that are not assigned to a team are global entities. Global entities can only be accessed by global users.

📘Migrating to Teams

Teams are designed to make migration easy. On Day 1, all existing users will be global users and have access to all publications and advertisers until they are placed into a team. As a result, your existing process will not be interrupted so you can steadily move users over to their teams.

Teams and Roles

Teams are complementary to roles. A user's role establishes what a user can do while a team establishes what entities a user can do things to. So two users on the same team may have different roles and responsibilities, while having access to only a specific publication or advertiser. For example, User A may only be allowed to create creatives while User B may only be allowed to create campaigns for Advertiser 1.

Managing Teams

The built-in Administrator role can create teams and assign users. You may also opt to give teams administration access to certain custom roles as well. See User Roles for more information.

Selecting Advertisers

Teams help you manage your organization’s users' access to specific publications, advertisers, or campaigns, based on their area of responsibility or other business rules. To simplify, you can select “any advertiser” rather than a “fixed list” of advertisers. Create a campaign and choose from any advertiser defined by your organization and the campaign assigned to your team.

Advertiser list

If you are a user from an “any advertiser” team and want to create a new advertiser, that advertiser will not be assigned to the team but will remain global.

You can also create campaigns by a Global user and will have the option to select an “any advertiser” team as well as any team explicitly assigned to that campaign’s advertiser or no team at all.

FAQ

Q: What happens when you remove a user from a team?
That user will no longer belong to that team. When a user is removed from all teams, that user becomes a global user.

Q: What happens when you remove an advertiser from a team?
Campaigns stay within the team but cannot create new campaigns for the removed advertiser.

Q: If a user is on multiple teams and creates a campaign, to what team does it belong?
The new campaign will belong to the team that has the advertiser assigned. If the advertiser is assigned to both teams, then the user creating the campaign will need to explicitly identify what team it will belong to.

Q: What happens when a user on a team creates an advertiser?
Team users can create advertisers if their role includes Trafficking edit permissions. The new advertiser will automatically get assigned to the user's team.

Q: Can I use teams to restrict access to marketplace publications?
No. Teams will only restrict access to your owned and operated publications.
