Section Blocking Overview
Some sections of a Publisher's website can be omitted from Nativo Demand by creating a "Blocked Section" within Nativo Admin. This arrangement can be used to prevent ads from serving on an entire subsection, or specific pages depending on the detail of the URL provided.
Example Use Cases
A publisher has a wildcarded section of www.site.com/news/* but wishes to block ads from the emergency news subsection. An effective URL for the blocked section might be www.site.com/news/emergency/*. This would allow ads to continue serving to the larger News section, but skipping over Emergency.
A publisher only has two sections www.site.com/home and www.site.com/* but wishes to block ads from a specific event page. An effective blocking URL might be www.site.com/current-event.html. Ads will serve the rest of the site like usual, but the individual event page will not see any demand.
Blocking Ads from a Specific Section
A Blocked Section is set up similarly to a regular section a publisher might wish to monetize, except for the key distinction of not allowing ads to serve on that section. The following screenshot shows the short steps to take in order to establish a specific URL as a Blocked Section.
Create a new section and list the URL of the section that should have ads blocked.
Set the section's "Page Type" based on what content is represented by the URL.
Ensure that the "allow ads" box is unchecked to prevent ads from serving on this section.
Review the above steps and then save!
Blocking a Section
Adding a name like "Block Section" is optional, but can help notify anyone else who might view the section later that it has intentionally been set up as un-monetized.
After the page has been saved, the Blocked Section is active and within a few hours, the ad server will recognize any pages within the specified URL as un-monetized inventory. No further setup is needed. Blocked sections also do not have any associated placements assigned to them as they would of course never be filled with ads.
Requesting a Section Block
If your user account settings don't allow for the ability to create new sections, a request can be sent to your Account Manager with the following information:
Scenario surrounding the ads that should be blocked: is it all ads, a certain category, a certain type of ads?
What page or pages should be blocked. A specific URL is ideal whenever possible.
What type of content the page(s) represent.
Time/date the section block should be implemented and if it should be permanent or temporary.
If a large number of sections should be blocked, sometimes a wildcarded section is feasible to cover multiple pages. Your Account Manager will be able to assist with the best possible blocking solution.
