Safety Blocking Overview

In the event that a specific advertiser or vertical has run ads across a publisher's inventory, that publisher may wish to block future ads of a similar nature from their entire site list. This guide will illustrate how a publisher can implement site-wide blocks using the Safety Blocking UI.

❗️Use caution when applying Safety Blocks

Blocks made via the Safety Blocking interface apply to all inventory within a publisher's organization. More granular blocks can be applied through other Admin features.

Problematic Ad Reported

  • When a client or user views a publication and indicates that they have viewed an ad deemed inappropriate or offensive, their report should include a screenshot.

  • If a screenshot was not included, it's best to request one be submitted if possible.

  • Take note of the byline, "by Coolimba" in the below example. A complete spelling of the advertiser byline is required for blocking, even if a screenshot was not available. The byline is the best indicator of an ad's advertiser.

  • Use this advertiser information, the site/placement in which the ad appeared, and date the ad appeared to locate the advertiser within Nativo's Admin Reporting UI.

Example Ad to be Blocked

Blocking Specific Advertisers

Use a Demand Report to locate advertisers that have run ads on specified inventory:

Breakdown by Advertiser and Advertiser Domain to generate a list of all domains.

👍Narrowing the scope

Use filters along the top of a report to specify dates, inventory, or demand channel which may help to locate a specific advertiser.

  1. Once an advertiser's domain has been identified, go to the Safety Blocking interface under the Monetization tab to place blocks.

  2. Select "Advertisers" in the left margin.

  3. Enter the domain into the first text field (omitting http:// or https://) and select the Add button.

  4. The second text field can be used to search through existing blocks to verify blocked status or to remove a block if an advertiser should be allowed once again.

📘Did you know?

Several advertisers can be blocked at once by uploading a file containing all desired domains.

As indicated in the interface, drop or browse for a .txt or .csv file to upload.

Blocking Categories

Use a Demand Report to view impressions by category on specified inventory:

If excessive impressions from an undesirable category make up a significant portion of the fill contribution, it may be worth blocking the category altogether.

  1. Once a category has been identified, go to the Safety Blocking interface under the Monetization tab to place blocks.

  2. Select Categories from the left margin.

  3. Use the button to the right of a category to implement a block. Any implemented blocks can be reversed later if a category should be allowed once again.

🚧Blocker beware!

Blocking a category that relates closely to a site's "brand" can have a significant impact on revenue. As categorical blocks are broad and apply across all inventory and demand channels, ensure you are certain before installing this type of block.
